South Coast & Eyjafjallajökull

Iceland holidays jeep tour: Experience Icelandic nature to the fullest

Iceland holidays jeep tour: We will start this day tour by picking you up at your hotel/hostel in Reykjavík in one of our super jeeps and drive towards the south coast. Ahead is a day full of beauty and diversity in Icelandic nature – waterfalls, glaciers, mountains, lava, hiking and much more. Our first destination is the beautiful Urriðafoss waterfall. The next stop is Seljalandsfoss where you have an opportunity to walk behind the 40 m high waterfall. After admiring the waterfall, we will go hiking in the glacier Sólheimajökull, an outlet glacier from Mýrdalsjökull ice cap. Later we will enjoy a traditional Icelandic lunch, head down to the coastline and have a look at the spectacular views by the coast, experience Eyjafjallajökull volcano and finally will enjoy the great promontories of Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar, located near Vík í Mýrdal. Iceland holidays jeep tour is something you must do at least once in your life.

• Glacier hiking
• Walk behind a waterfall
• Views by the coastline
• Beautiful lakes and mountains
• Eyjafjallajökull
• Iceland´s magnificent landscape

Urriðafoss waterfall located in the river Þjórsá, Iceland´s longest river (230 km). In the early days of power companies plans were to build a power plant in Urriðafoss. It did now happen but now are plans to build hydropower stations on the lower part of Þjórsá river. The proposed Urriðafoss power plant will be underground and a tunnel leading from the powerhosue will open into Þjórsá virver below Urriðafoss. The waterfall is expected to disappear.

Seljalandsfoss is one of Iceland´s most famous waterfalls. It drops 60 metres (200 ft) over the cliffs of the former coastline. A path at the bottom of the cliff makes it possible to walk behind the fall. Please note that the path might be slippery so be careful but it´s a unique experience to go behind the waterfall. A beautiful waterfall worth visiting.

Sólheimajökull glacier is, as said before, an outlet of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier ice cap. It is about 8 km long and 1-2 km wide. The glacier has advanced around 1 km during the last few centuries. It is a popular hiking area but as the glacier is constantly moving, it´s only safe to hike with experienced guides. Next to Sólheimajökull is Eyjafjallajökull volcano.

The small peninsula, or promontory, Dyrhólaey (120 km) is located not far from Vík í Mýrdal, on the south coast of Iceland. It was formerly an island of volcanic origin. The view from up there is magnificent. To the north is Mýrdalsjökull glacier. To the east, the black lava volumns of Reynisdrangar come out of the sea, and to the west the whole coastline in the direction of Selfoss is visible on a clear day. In front of the peninsula is a gigantic black arch of lava standing in the sea next to the black sand beach. A beautiful and a unique place, one of the most popular Iceland holidays jeep tour.
